A Message from Barkside Bistro

At Barkside Bistro, our purpose is to be nurturing and that has never been truer than right now. We are incredibly proud of our teammates. Their efforts have been incredible, and we know there is much more hard work ahead. Our team is working long and hard to keep our stores safe and restock our shelves. This is a pivotal time for all Canadians as we navigate the changes required to fight the spread of COVID-19. We are standing strong and supporting our clients and community, because as a family-focused small business, that’s just what we do.

Be safe. Stay well.

*While we make every effort to ensure the accuracy of the below information, the situation and information being provided to us is constnatly changing. This information is subject to immediate correction as new facts become available to us.

Adjusted Hours

We are experiencing reduced sales and therefore have a reduced team. We’ve temporarily updated our hours to ensure:

  • We have time to fill orders in advance of your visit so you spend less time in line
  • Stores are restocked, cleaned and sanitized

Click here to find store hour information about your local store.

We have opted not to open stores to the public at this time. We want to keep you and our team healthy and reduce exposure as best we can amongst other considerations. We continue to monitor the situation and watch other businesses with deeper pockets and more staff lead the way on how best to accomplish this safely.

We are receiving regular shipments of supplies to our stores, and our team is working hard to keep our shelves filled at this unprecedented time. We have every confidence in Canada’s strong and secure food supply chain, and we are working diligently to keep up the movement of food and supplies to our stores and refill our freezers and shelves. If you see an item out of stock, know that it will be full again shortly.

How to Order

We are open for online orders for either pick-up or delivery. To avoid line-ups, we recommend you place your order and allow 24 business hrs. for us to review and fill it. If you haven't received an email from us confirming your pick-up is ready, still come to the store on your requested date: click here to find store hour information about your local store. Once you place your order and we have had a chance to review it, if substitutions are required we will let you know via email or phone. Pre-orders will be treated as a regular order and not be processed until close to the fulfillment date – we cannot hold inventory due to freezer space limitations. When you come to the store, bring your cell phone with your order confirmation just in case we need to reference it. Due to freezer limitations, we will find it difficult to hold food for longer than 48 hrs past the pick up date you have set.

Out of food? Forgot to place your order? Don't like online shopping?

Not a problem. You can also shop and pay at the door. We can fill the order while you wait.

Trouble ordering online?

Here are some suggestions if you are having difficulty: i) clear your cache of browsing data, ii) try a different browser such as Google or Explorer, iii) try a different computer, iv) if you are using a cell phone, try using a computer.

Please rest assured: We do not process payment until you have either picked up your approved order or we have delivered it.

Our former “delivery” company became unavailable to us when everything closed down in March. As an “essential service”, Barkside remained open. As you might expect, the pandemic has created an escalated demand for delivery. What we decided to do at that time, and continue to do now, is utilize folks within our community who have experienced employment and earnings disruption as a result of this situation.

Deliveries will happen in the week you have requested but we cannot commit to a specific date until ALL the deliveries are in for the week and we have had chance to map out logistics. Delivery may be Wednesday, Thursday and rarely but occasionally, Friday of a given week. Expect Wednesday delivery. You will get an email from us on Wednesday only if we have had to move your delivery to Thursday (or Friday).

At this time, your delivery will arrive in the late afternoon or early evening. Please leave a cooler for us to put the food in if you are not going to be home. We will call or text just before we arrive.

Need Help?

This is a frustrating time for us all and for many reasons but especially if you are new to raw, or have a situation you are concerned about and would like to discuss it may seem challenging to get help. If we can be of assistance, because we are working with reduced staff, we suggest you connect with us either thru the “? Help” link on our website or by emailing: [email protected]. Please allow 24 to 48 hrs for us to respond. We will arrange a time during the week after 3 pm to either give you a call, or you can meet with Karen at the Gerrard location for a social distance meeting. Please bring a mask to this meeting – we will be wearing ours!

We hope to see some good come out of this difficult time. Here are some of the small things Barkside Bistro is doing:

  • We employ unemployed or underemployed folks to make our deliveries
  • We are donating to local food banks monthly
  • We joined the Canadian Federation of Independent Business in the hopes that such an organization can help not just us but other small businesses like ours make it in these challenging times
  • We offer free delivery to clients in quarantine or in special need

Staying Safe

Steps to Protect Our Teammates and Clients

We are doing everything we can to keep our teammates and customers safe in our stores. We will continue to assess and implement new measures as needed.

  • Our staff is wearing facemasks in store for everyone’s added safety.
  • Reduced store hours to allow more time for extra cleaning and sanitization efforts and stocking our shelves.
  • We have suspended food returns / exchanges.
  • We encourage all shoppers to order online in order to forgo cash payments and avoid payment device contact.
  • We encourage all teammates who feel sick to stay home, and will implement procedures recommended by health authorities as required.

What We Will Do if One of Our Teammates Tests Positive for COVID-19

We will always do all we can to keep our teammates and clients safe.

  • We strictly enforce that teammates who feel sick do not come into work.
  • If one of our teammates tests positive for COVID-19, we will follow the direction of public health every step of the way.
  • We will close and deep clean as directed by public health.
  • We will work closely with public health officials to investigate our teammate’s known points of contact.

Random Fact

Is your dog or cat looking a little leaner recently? We are recently hearing from a lot of you about this very thing. We believe that because our guys are getting more exercise, attention and stimulation with us being home, this may be the cause. If everything else seems normal, you may just want to feed a little more to compensate. If you think it might be something more and are worried, please consult your vet.
